The Association of STEMM Pathway and Bridge Programs (ASPBP) would like to invite you to the 2023 Annual Virtual Conference, to be held October 4-5, 2023. The ASPBP conference provides opportunities to connect with and learn from others who share the same passion for justice, equity, diversity and inclusion essential for STEMM disciplines. The annual ASPBP conference will provide you with new approaches, ideas and resources across the pathway programs ecosystem, from K-12 programs to post-bacc and Master's degree programs. Our theme is "Pathways and Bridges: Opportunity. Connection. Equity. Success."

2021 Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award

Over the past two decades, Dr. Fulton has worked to transform medical biochemistry from a siloed collection of enzymes and pathways to an applied discipline focused on understanding. She worked with a team to implement and study the Pathways of Human Metabolism Map, a visual tool for health professions students that promotes deep learning and application of classroom concepts to clinical problems.

BACK TO THE FUTURE: MAXIMIZING STUDENT LEARNING AND WELL-BEING IN THE VIRTUAL AGE

The virtual age of learning is no longer in the future. It is here, and IAMSE wants to equip its members with the tools to successfully teach the next generation of health care professionals. As such, this five-part webinar series will explore theory and best practices in the delivery of content over virtual and online media while simultaneously promoting a positive learning environment and student well-being.

September 2: Developing Faculty for the Future of Health Professions Education - Dr. Theresa Chan in which she will delve into current work and future directions for successful online learning environments in medical education.

September 9: Creating Learning Entities: Augmentation in health professions education- Dr. Rachel Ellaway will provide a theoretical framework for online learning environments and describe the varied roles of technology in learner engagement.

September 16: Reminders, Refocusing and Rethinking: Med Ed after COVID- ABE member Dr. Andrew Binks and Dr. Adam Weinstein will share their perspectives on the changing landscape of medical education and curriculum delivery following the COVID-19 pandemic.

September 23: Hybrid Health Care Education: Rethinking student support and innovating for the future - Dr. Kendra Gagnon will share her experiences with building professional identity, promoting student well-being, promoting diversity, and supporting socialization when students are physically disconnected in online and hybrid health sciences education programs.

September 30: How COVID-19 Transformed Online Teaching and Learning: Or did it? - a panel of faculty and students from diverse institutions and disciplines, including ABE member Dr. Jaya Yodh, as they discuss ways in which COVID-19 has transformed online teaching and learning across both the basic and clinical sciences. Current outcomes data from the changes brought about by the pandemic will be highlighted.

This series will provide the audience with a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges of future health science education including practical tools for successfully incorporating virtual learning.

Congratulations to ABE member Kim Dahlman on receiving the IAMSE Early Career Award.

The Early Career Award for Excellence in Teaching and Innovation honors an IAMSE member who has made significant innovations to the field in the short time they have focused their careers toward enhancing teaching, learning and assessment. Candidates must have demonstrated less than 10 years of educational scholarship. Kimberly Dahlman, 2021 awardee, is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Division of Hematology/Oncology) and Director of the Innovative Translational Research Shared Resource (ITR) in the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Dear ABE Members,

Prior to the conference in May, elections will be held for Member-at-Large seats on the ABE Board of Directors. The Board leads our organization in advancing its mission, which is to promote the critical foundational role of Biochemistry in healthcare education, to foster innovation in Biochemistry education, and to support the development and advancement of Biochemistry educators. The Board considers all proposals for new initiatives and serves as the planning committee for ABE biennial conferences. Service on the Board provides not only a valuable contribution to biochemistry education but also a unique opportunity for professional development. Board members gain professional recognition at the national level that may contribute to professional advancement.

The ABE Nominating Committee seeks nominations for a slate of candidates to fill three Member-at-Large vacancies on the Board of Directors. The ABE Board of Directors consists of eleven voting members: President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Past-President, and six Members-at-Large. Members-at-Large are elected to serve four-year terms.

The deadline for nominations is 12 noon EDT on Monday, February 1^st.

The slate of nominees will be posted on the ABE website by February 15th and the election will occur during the first two weeks of March.
